Weights & Measures

The City Sealer enforces Weights and Measures regulations. City Sealers play a vital role in protecting the consumer and maintaining an equitable market place between businesses. Each year all commercial weights and measures devices (scales, gas pumps, scanners, and timing devices) are checked for accuracy. A City Seal is then affixed to approved devices.

Products that are sold by weight and measure are also tested. Short weight or mislabeled products are removed from sale and sent back to the distributor or manufacturer. Scaled and weights used by the Weights and Measures Program are tested and certified by the state Metrology Lab. By monitoring the accuracy of gas station pumps, grocery store packages, scales, and checkout scanners, the weights and measures program saves an average Wisconsin family up to $500 a year.

Businesses in the city of South Milwaukee must license all weights and measures devices. These include:Gas pump
