Milwaukee County EMS and City of South Milwaukee Fire personnel Participate in Medical Studies
The City of South Milwaukee participates in a Countywide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agreement that ensures consistency, countywide access to Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic services for an EMS response. All paramedic and EMT units within the County, including the City of South Milwaukee Fire Department, are required “to participate in research as determined by the County Research Committee.” These studies are highly regulated by various federal agencies. The two-part study relates to treatment aspects of cardiac arrest events: one part is an interventional drug study and the other part relates to CPR techniques. Study protocol requires that an individual “opt out” if they do not want to be automatically included in the study in the event of a cardiac arrest event where an ambulance responds. All residents are encouraged to read the informational materials provided by the studies or “opt out”. There are instructions and contact information in the last paragraph of each study document to assist you in getting your questions answered or in “opting-out.”
